Lecture given by Dr. Eric Goosby: TB: Tackling the world’s leading infectious disease killer (not hosted by GlobalPDX)

Eric P. Goosby, M.D., is an internationally recognized expert on infectious diseases who has participated in and developed program and policy at the highest levels of government. He currently serves as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Tuberculosis where he works to raise awareness of TB and help implement known solutions to address the critical problem of increasing deaths worldwide from this curable disease. Dr. Goosby is the MacArthur Foundation Chair in the UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences and co-director of the UCSF-UC Berkeley Center for Global Health Delivery and Diplomacy. In 1991, Dr. Goosby became the founding director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Ryan White CARE Act, a program that brought care and treatment services to 52 epicenter cities and all 50 states. In 2009, President Barack Obama appointed him Global AIDS Coordinator, charged with the implementation of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. Dr. Goosby also served as founding director of the State Department’s Office of Global Health Diplomacy, placing global health on the agenda of every U.S. Ambassador as a tool of soft power diplomacy.
Dr. Goosby will be giving the 8th annual Kathryn Robertson Memorial Lecture in Global Health at OHSU.
