GlobalPDX Conference | November 2, 2018 | Portland State University
About the conference
Last year, we hosted our first ‘Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals’ conference in 2017, in response to the demand from our members for a forum in which they can engage with others in Oregon with similar interests. The conference focused on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and took broad strokes on topics such as innovative financing models, inclusive development, working cross-sectorally, and advances in technology that support monitoring and evaluation activities, to name a few.
To follow up on this successful conference, GlobalPDX is hosting another conference to meet the needs of the international development community in Oregon and beyond. This year, we are hosting a full-day conference on Friday, November 2nd at the Smith Memorial Student Union in downtown Portland. The conference will focus on the humanitarian, development, and peace Nexus (the Triple Nexus) building on the growing recognition that humanitarian, development, and peace building efforts are complementary and need to reinforce each other, to respond to volatile situations around the world. Humanitarian and development actions converge around the need to prevent, prepare for and respond to crises, especially for the most vulnerable and at-risk populations. How do we build resilience, reduce vulnerability, how can organizations work together more cohesively towards achieving the SDGs and how do we operationalize this.
The GlobalPDX Conference 2018 is a full-day conference (9am - 6pm), lunch will be provided. There are two keynote sessions in the morning provided by Rebecca Wolfe, Director of Evidence and Influence, Peace & Conflict at Mercy Corps and Patrick T. Hiller, Executive Director at the War Prevention Initiative. There are a total of six breakout sessions in the afternoon. We close with a reception and an informal poster presentation where individuals and organizations have an opportunity to present their work. If you would like to learn more about this opportunity, please email us.
Ticket price includes all day conference access to keynote and breakout sessions, lunch, and an evening reception. Please note that ticket sales are not refundable, but can be transferred to another person.
The conference will be held Friday November 2nd from 9am to 6pm at the Smith Memorial Student Union at Portland State University, located at 1825 SW Broadway, Portland, OR 97201.
The area is served by multiple bus and Max lines. For details on how to get to the conference using public transit, visit TriMet. There are bike racks and street parking nearby. PSU's visitor parking information can be found here.
The conference will offer opportunities to learn, network, collaborate and exhibit amongst development professionals from across Oregon. It will consist of multiple networking opportunities (including an evening reception and poster session), workshops, panel discussions, facilitated knowledge sharing and a forum focused on fostering partnership and collaboration.
Your support towards this conference will be of significant importance to Oregon’s development community and will contribute to elevating the impact we can each have on poverty alleviation around the world while protecting the planet. Conference sponsors will benefit from visibility and access to conference events. We anticipate an audience of approximately 200 people representing both the public and private sectors, academia and government. Conference participants are thought-leaders in the field of international development representing organizations that work in multiple countries around the world, practitioners who spend time in the field, researchers seeking solutions to global challenges grounded in science, and funders interested in investing for impact.
