International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. It is also the beginning of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an annual international campaign that runs through 10 December, Human Rights Day.

To mark the beginning of this campaign, Global Washington’s Women of the World members have put together a short set of campaign resources to guide you in your own activism. Here you will find:

• An issue brief and summaries of NGOs addressing gender-based violence. This article provides a solid grounding in the topic and explores how the COVID-19 epidemic has exacerbated underlying challenges. It also outlines the costs this type of violence places on individuals and societies, and highlights NGOs who are implementing promising interventions to put a stop to it at the local, national and international levels.

• The 2021 Global Philanthropy Guide, a partnership between Global Washington and Seattle Foundation, which includes seven feature stories about Global Washington members whose work is central to ending gender-based violence. The guide also includes a directory of all Global Washington’s 160+ members.

• And finally, a virtual art exhibit and associated campaign: “Take Heart You Are Not Alone.” Supported by GlobalWA & Women of the World, the exhibit stands for ending gender-based violence and using the power of art to heal.
