Virtual Lunch & Learn: Advancing U.S. Security, Interests, and Prosperity Through IT Management

June 3 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Rapid changes in technology are transforming how our diplomats advance U.S. foreign policy by altering the way we connect with others and communicate information. Our diplomats require powerful new technologies to advocate policy positions, promote awareness, and enhance transparency – that’s where the Department of State’s Bureau of Information Resource Management (IRM) comes in.

IRM’s foremost objective is to foster innovative, effective, and interconnected diplomacy by constantly improving, modernizing, and refreshing our tools and services. IRM is expanding the use of collaborative information development and refinement to provide end users with accurate and useful information – anytime, anywhere. IRM supports new IT solutions that provide access to collaborative tools and enables mobility, while simultaneously protecting our information and IT assets against evolving cyber threats and vulnerabilities.  IRM empowers the Department to achieve its foreign policy mission by providing modern, secure, and resilient information technology and services.

On Wednesday, June 3rd from 11:30 am  – 1:00 pm join Technology Association of Oregon and U.S. Department of State’s Director of Information Resource Management Consolidated Customer Service, Todd Cheng , for a conversation about the challenges and opportunities of managing Information Resources for the Department of State’s worldwide foreign policy  and diplomatic operation.

Todd will be joined by Diplomat in Residence for the Northwest, Micaela Schweitzer-Bluhm , who will talk about how the Department is hiring to meet its complex information management needs.

Participants will find out the challenges that come with working in over 270 global locations, the significant infrastructure and cyber-security risks, and how the Department of State prioritizes innovation, leadership, and creative thinking.
