Our History
In 1996 Irene Tinker began hosting Development Salon in her living room. It was an informal gathering of globally minded Portlanders discussing international issues. In 2012 Green Empowerment helped transform these informal gatherings into strategic networking events for the global development community. It was from these evenings, over micro brews and shared philosophy, that vision for GlobalPDX was born. Five years later Green Empowerment, Portland State University, Oregon Health and Science University, Mercy Corps and Medical Teams International converted the shared vision into the GlobalPDX Initiative, aiming to connect academia, practitioners, businesses and thinkers around Oregon to strengthen the global network. Ever since GlobalPDX has provided an organizing space for global changemakers, elevating the impact of globally conscious organizations and amplifying the voices of the passionate individuals in our state.
