Although climate change is happening everywhere, research repeatedly shows that those who are already struggling with poverty, oppression, and instability are being affected the most and will increasingly bear the consequences. Indigenous peoples in particular are often marginalized and discriminated against in their countries’ legal systems, leaving them even more vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Indigenous peoples are among the first to face the direct consequences of climate change, due to their dependence upon, and close relationship with the environment and its resources.
