In Memory of Paul Farmer

Paul Farmer is a personal hero of mine. NPR does a wonderful job at giving a little insight into the amazing work he did for so many.

I met Palmer Farmer once. It was in Haiti (of course) at a well known restaurant in the town of St. Marc where I was working. It was getting late and he was hell bent on making his way to another town that night. I warned him of the dangers of the road after dark, of which I’m sure he was well aware of, but still I shook my head as he walked off. I admire that kind of person (though still, I would always wait until the roads are safer, but I’m a bit of a worry-wort that way…). It’s easy to feel defeated and to give up, but Paul never did. May we all find that kind of commitment to a cause we care deeply about.
